College is certainly different from school. Likewise with the leadership structure within it. At universities there are no longer the terms teacher, principal or deputy principal. So that you don't get the wrong name, let's get to know some of the names for leaders at universities.
Chancellor
The Chancellor is the highest leader at a university. The chancellor's job is to monitor all systems at the university so that they run smoothly. The image and reputation of the campus is one of the Chancellor's duties to present a representative figure of the university in the public eye. A Chancellor must meet the specified qualifications. In this case, Muhammadiyah University Jakarta (UMJ) is one of the Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah Universities . So, the Chancellor must be in line with Muhammadiyah's vision and mission and determined by the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership. Vice Chancellor
Like leaders in general, the Chancellor also has a deputy who is usually called the Deputy Chancellor or Warek. UMJ has four Vice Rectors with different fields. Vice Rector I, Dr. Muhammad Hadi, S.Kp., M.Kep., in charge of academics, Vice Rector II, Dr. Ir. Mutmainah, MM., in charge of general affairs, HR, Facilities and Infrastructure, and finance, then Vice Rector III Dr. Rini Fatma Kartika, S.Ag., MH., in charge of Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan development, and Vice Rector IV Dr. Septa Candra, SH, MH, in charge of student affairs.
Dean
Another difference between universities and schools is the existence of departments or study programs (prodi) and faculties. The university has several faculties, and the faculties oversee several study programs. UMJ has 10 faculties and 1 graduate school and 59 study programs. It can be said that the faculty is the second level after the university. So the faculty also has a leader called the Dean and Deputy Deans or Deputy Deans who assist the Dean's duties.
The Dean is tasked with monitoring each study program that is part of one faculty, both in terms of accreditation, student affairs, finance and institutional. In each faculty, Wadek is also divided into 3 fields, including Wadek I in charge of accreditation, Wadek II in charge of finance, and Wadek III in charge of student affairs.
Head of Study Program
After the faculty, the Study Program or Study Program has a head who is called the Head of Study Program. The Head of Study Program is responsible for every lecture activity and student association under the auspices of a Study Program.
Lecturer
There is no longer a term for teacher, new students must know that lecturers are those who teach courses. Usually a lecturer teaches two to three different courses. Meanwhile, lecturers do not serve as homeroom teachers as was the case at school.
Supervising lecturer
Supervising lecturer or Dospem is a lecturer who will guide a student for 8 semesters. There is no significant difference between lecturers and supervisors. Usually a supervisor can guide 5 to 8 students. Dospem's task is to be a place for student academic consultation, such as taking Study Plan Cards (KRS), Cumulative Achievement Index (GPA) problems, and so on.
Education Personnel
Within a university there are of course other institutions that regulate aspects of education. Like UMJ which has the Institute for the Study and Application of Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan (LPP-AIK), employees who are under this institution are called educational staff or tendik. At the faculty level, staff can be found in the faculty secretariat room. The staff's duties cover various fields, one of which is recording new student admissions.
Student
Student is the term for people who are currently studying at a higher education institution (PT). Therefore, someone who has graduated from high school (SMA/SMK) and continues their education either at a university, institution or high school is no longer called a pupil or student. The term student indicates the highest level in the academic ladder.
Academic Community
For you new students, perhaps the term academic community is still unfamiliar. What do you think is an academic community? So, the academic community is a group that is within a university and supports the running of educational facilities and infrastructure such as research, community service, etc. Not only are they responsible for academic continuity, the academic community also needs to maintain norms and culture that are in accordance with Pancasila in the campus environment. The academic community includes lecturers and students.
